How SOLOMON LINDA the ”Mbube ” Crooner died broke

Do You know the original version of the sound track of “The lion king “ was first done by a South African artiste Solomon Linda ? He was inspired by his childhood life how he and his friends used to chase away lions .  His song “ Mbube “ ( The lion  ) became a house hold song in South Africa  in 1939 . He did the song with his group called “Evening Birds )  . Gallo Music  Publishers , a  recording company  in South Africa approached him and offered him 10 shillings ($2) and bought the rights  of his song which they later sold to another company that finally sold it to Disney for millions of Dollars . 

Solomon Linda died broke and his family couldn’t even afford to make a tombstone at his grave .  Years later a South African journalist wrote an article about Solomon Linda that went viral .  His family sued Disney with the backing of the South African Government and Disney had to give them an undisclosed sum .
